Log on  and register with GO MAINE to get the Emergency Ride Home Guarantee* – our #1 benefit that allows for a free (or reimbursed) taxi ride or rental car home in the event of a workday emergency.  Think of it as "commuter insurance"!

Whether it’s for an illness, family crisis, unscheduled overtime, or other unforseen workday emergency, a free (or reimbursed) taxi or rental car will get you home!

* This benefit is available to registered GO MAINE commuters only who are regular users of commuting alternatives—carpooling, vanpooling, transit, or bicycling.  Use of this special benefit is limited to 2 times within a single month or 8 times within a calendar year.

If there’s time, call us at 1.800.280.RIDE and we’ll try to arrange other transportation for you.  If not, here’s what to do:

If your commute distance is LESS than 20 miles one-way:

Taxi List

  1. Call a local taxi company to arrange a ride home.
  2. Ask the taxi operator about payment: Many taxis will take a personal check, others take credit cards, some only take cash, a few will bill GO MAINE directly.
  3. Whatever the case, GO MAINE will promptly reimburse you for the cost of the ride, should you have to pay upfront (please save your receipt!)
  4. Then off you go!
  5. Mail receipt to:  GO MAINE, Attn: ERHG, 68 Marginal Way, Portland ME 04101.  Reimbursement generally takes about a week.

If your commute distance is GREATER than 20 miles one-way:

  1. Call the Enterprise Rent-a-Car office nearest you or 1.800.736.8222
  2. Provide the representative with the following:

    Enterprise
    Locations

      • Your GO MAINE member # (if known)
      • Personal information: Name, home address, home and work phone #’s, drivers license # and license expiration date.
      • Time and location of pick-up, as well as directions to pick-up location.
  3. An Enterprise representative will pick you up at the desired location and time (or you may get your own ride to the Enterprise office if that’s more convenient) and bring you back to the Enterprise office.
  4. Fill out the rental agreement (takes only a few minutes), show valid drivers license and proof of insurance.
  5. Should you need to purchase optional collision coverage (depends on your insurance, your responsibility) through Enterprise , some form of payment (credit card imprint, cash deposit) will be required at time of rental.
  6. Rentals are for one day only.   You will be responsible for any additional days if you decide to keep the rental longer.  If you are renting on a Friday please note that the vehicle must be returned to the nearest Enterprise location on Saturday.
  7. You are responsible for refueling the vehicle prior to returning the rental to Enterprise.
