Emergency Ride Home

Our #1 benefit!

Register with GO MAINE to get the Emergency Ride Home Guarantee that allows for a free or reimbursed taxi ride or rental car home in the event of a workday emergency. Whether it’s for an illness, family crisis, unscheduled overtime, or other unforeseen workday emergency, a free (or reimbursed) taxi or rental car will get you home!  Think of it as “commuter insurance”!

This benefit is only available to registered GO MAINE commuters who are regular users of commuting alternatives-carpooling, vanpooling, transit, or bicycling.  Use of this special benefit is limited to 2 times within a single month or 8 times within a calendar year.

To be eligible for the Emergency Ride Home Guarantee you must select it when you sign up with GO MAINE.  If you didn’t, log in to your commuter profile and select it now.

How to use the Emergency Ride Home Guarantee:

My commute distance is LESS than 20 miles one-way, so I’ll need a taxi.

You must select the Emergency Ride Home option when you sign up with GO MAINE.  If you haven’t done that, click here to edit your profile and select it now.

  • Log in to your GO MAINE account and click on the Emergency Ride Home page to get a printable taxi ride voucher.  If you have time, print this off before you take the taxi.  If not, print it out within 5 days.  You will need the voucher to get reimbursed.
  • Call a local taxi company to arrange a ride home.
  • Ask the taxi operator about payment:  Many taxis will take a personal check, others take credit cards, some only take cash, a few will bill GO MAINE directly. Whatever the case, GO MAINE will promptly reimburse you for the cost of the ride, should you have to pay upfront.
  • Mail voucher and receipt to:  GO MAINE, Attn: ERHG, 68 Marginal Way, Portland ME 04101.  We will mail you your reimbursement.

My commute distance is GREATER than 20 miles one-way so I’ll need a rental car.

You must select the Emergency Ride Home option when you sign up with Go Maine.  If you haven’t done that, click here to edit your profile and select it now.

  • Log in to your GO MAINE account and click on the Emergency Ride Home page to get a printable rental car voucher. If you have time, print this off before you rent the car. If not, print it out within 4 days. You will need the voucher to get reimbursed.
  • Call the Enterprise Rent-a-Car office nearest you at 1-800-736-8222 or find them at their website here.
  • Provide the representative with your name, home address, home and work phone #’s, drivers license # and license expiration date, time and location of pick-up, as well as directions to pick-up location.

An Enterprise representative will pick you up at the desired location and time (or you may get your own ride to the Enterprise office if that’s more convenient) and bring you back to the Enterprise office.  Fill out the rental agreement (takes only a few minutes), show valid drivers license and proof of insurance.

Please note: Should you need to purchase optional collision coverage (depends on your insurance, your responsibility) through Enterprise, some form of payment (credit card imprint, cash deposit) will be required at time of rental.  Rentals are for one day only.  You will be responsible for any additional days if you decide to keep the rental longer.  If you are renting on a Friday please note that the vehicle must be returned to the nearest Enterprise location on Saturday.  You are responsible for refueling the vehicle prior to returning the rental to Enterprise.

Also: If for any reason a rental car is not available, or you do not have a drivers license and insurance, you can take a taxi.
